Are you struggling to find a present for someone? Does this person seem to already have everything or you aren’t sure what they would like to receive? Do you want to resort to giving them money but feel that a note is too much of an easy option?
If you have answered yes to any of these then I have the solution for you. Let me present to you the Puzzle Pod Gift Cryptex.
(Did you read that in a cheesy sales man’s voice?)
D and I were struggling to think of something to buy our nephew for his 12th birthday but didn’t want to resort to just giving him some money. We wanted to be more creative than that. So, we gave him money, but in a sealed pod that required him to crack a series of cryptic clues before he could get to the £10 note. Not just fun for my nephew but lots of fun for D and I too. Call me wicked but I do enjoy watching people struggle and get frustrated with a puzzle, especially one I have created. Muwahahahaha!
After days of pondering what to get him D visited his favourite gadget site, Firebox and browsed through the novelty gifts and downright geeky gadgetry and found the Puzzle Pod Gift Cryptex. At £17.99 it’s a reasonably priced present on top of whatever you choose to put inside, as it can be used as a money box thereafter.
We filled the pod with the £10 note and a selection of sickly sweets we know our nephew loves. The sweets would also play a part in the cryptic code to be cracked. Together, D and I had great fun coming up with a series of questions that would lead our nephew to cracking the code.
I had hoped our clues would keep him occupied for days but it took him just 1 hour to crack it! That’s without any help too!
Once the sweets were eaten and the money was hidden, he found some precious items belonging to his older brother, popped them inside the pod along with the clues and sealed it. Even more fun to come!
Here are the clues. The answer to each question is required to answer the following question. The answer to the last question is the code to crack open the pod
1. The taste of what’s inside of me is your first clue
2. The opposite of me will make you pull a face put the names together and you get a famous dish
3. Where am I from?
4. I’m famous for an army but what year was I discovered?
5. In the same year a famous singer was born who was in a band
6. I sang a song about a year
7. Add your brothers soon to be age (I have to give you this one – it’s 14)
8. Write it like Romans did
Can you crack the code?
